Time To Focus After Freshers

You have undoubtedly had the time of your life (minus the hangovers) during freshers week. Unfortunately for you, the time has come to get your head down and study hard.

Easier said than done when you’ve got new friends to catch up with and a mean case of Freshers flu to contend with.

Deadlines will come and go so don’t add to this stressful time by procrastinating. Stress is not good for our bodies or our minds. Be constructive with your study by trying our top tips…

– Set up your ‘home office’ in your room. Open the curtains, get out all your stationery, reference material and, all the textbooks you think you might need. You will be able to get so much more work done if you have everything to hand.

– Wake up early(ish) and have a shower, get dressed and put on your comfiest clothes. This will make you feel refreshed and ready to take on the day AND your studies.

– Turn your phone off or at least put it in a drawer. If you really don’t think you can have a complete phone ban then set yourself some targets. Write 1000 words and you can go on your phone for 30minutes and so on and so on.
Don’t get dragged down that social media rabbit hole where 10 minutes Insta scrolling turns into 2 hours.

– Keep a glass or bottle of water on your desk and try and have a sip after every paragraph/page of reading. Lack of water can reek havoc with our memory and concentration levels.

– Have a couple of air-purifying plants in your room to help you keep a clear head. Also, keep some rosemary on your desk as it’s been used for centuries and is thought to improve memory.
Give it a little sniff every now and again and if all else fails at least it smells good and you can use it while cooking too.
