How To Manage Your Mental Health At Uni

As humans, we are actually quite good at looking after our physical health which can be misleading. Our mental health matters just as much, if not more.

Recognising when we need to look after our brains is already a huge step in the right direction. Our student years are supposed to be the best years of our lives but the big changes and stress university life bring along can make that feel far from the truth.

Many uni’s will have student services available for you to utilise. They can be there simply to listen or they can give you advice and put you in touch with a mental health inclusion team or advise you to possibly book to see your GP. You may just need to vent to somebody other than a loved one.

If your university doesn’t offer this service, you could go directly to your GP and could even apply yourself for an independent learning plan. This way your coursework and deadlines can be worked around you and your personal needs.

Writing down how you feel in a journal can also help and may detect a certain pattern to when you feel anxious or low. This may help you prepare for the fog and can be a great way to explain how you feel to others without having to voice it out loud.

Speak up to somebody you trust. Don’t ever suffer alone.
