Be Prepared To Wait Around
One thing that is not usually mentioned is the time you spend waiting around. Depending on the size of the graduation ceremony you may find yourself sitting in your seat for more than an hour simply applauding every graduate that appears on stage. Things will become quite repetitive fast and some speeches may last a long time.
Book In Advance
Whether you decide to go out for a meal or simply potter around the local area, it can get busy! Plan and book in advance, especially if you are planning to visit a local restaurant after the ceremony. If you have guests who plan to stay over in the local area then it’s best to book your hotel stay weeks in advance to avoid being let down.
The Gown Is Unlike Anything Else You Have Worn
You will be wearing the gown for hours and it can get warm! The gown will feel heavy and you might not know how to put it on, but there will be people around to help assure you that you have it worn in the correct way. The mortarboard may mess your hair up so be prepared for “mortarboard hair” once you remove the cap.
It Gets Busy
The closer to the ceremony time the busier it gets around the venue. Give yourself plenty of time to reach the venue. It can also get busy inside so if you are collecting your gown then be prepared to cue.
