Brain Food

We already know well enough that we are what we eat. Eating healthily is not only good for our physical health but is also essential for our mental well-being and brain power too.
There is no magic food that is going to make you ace that exam unfortunately but incorporating these foods into your lifestyle will indeed improve your brain function in the long run for sure.

Water – Okay, so technically not a food but water is essential to keep our brains going to the best of its ability. Goodbye brain fog.

Wholegrains – Slow releasing glucose keeps you mentally alert during the day. Eat whole grains with a low GI (glycaemic index) to achieve this. Go for brown whole grain rice, cereals, granary bread, pasta, and quinoa.

Seeds – Pumpkin seeds in particular supply us with a mineral which is vital for enhancing memory and thinking skills. Also, jam packed with stress reducing magnesium, B vitamins and tryptophan.

Sage – Add fresh sage to your meals or use as an essential oil as it has a long reputation for improving memory and concentration.

Broccoli – Research has found that broccoli is so high in the compound that it can slow down the breakdown of acetylcholine, which we need for our central nervous system. Thanks to broccolis high levels of vitamin K and choline, it keeps our brains super sharp.

Beetroot – The natural nitrates in beets boost blood flow to the brain, helping with our mental performance. Perfect for study days.

Blueberries – This original super food is full of antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin K, and fiber. They have high levels of gallic acid which help protect our brains from stress and degeneration.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil –
Full o the brim of powerful antioxidants known as polyphenols which can actually improve learning and memory. Don’t heat or cook with it though, as it hydrogenases it becomes decomposing at high temps so eat cold drizzled over your food.

Green Leafy Veg – Eating lots of leafy greens is beneficial so our ageing brains. Incorporating them into our daily diets can really help slow down our mental deterioration.

Salmon – Wild Alaskan salmon is actually what you should be eating for all the brain benefits. Packed full of omega 3 fatty acids to keep our brains running smoothly and improve memory.

Turmeric – Talk about a super spice. Turmeric is now recognised as this years superfood of choice. A natural anti-
inflammatory, full of antioxidants to keep our immune system healthy while also improving our brains oxygen intake. Essential for keeping us alert.

Walnuts – Munching on a few walnuts daily can improve our cognitive health no end. They are full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals which improve our mental alertness.
