Everything you need to know about Lincoln
Lincoln's a great city to live in, mixing over 2000 years of history with a lively social scene. There are great adventures to be had in the city, from climbing the infamous Steep Hill, up to the Cathedral, to hitting the many shops, bars and clubs Lincoln has to offer.
Take time to explore the city and the surrounding area and you won't be disappointed. With clean, modern décor, state-of-the-art facilities and a lively social scene, The Junxion is definitely an impressive place to call home.
Browns pie shop and restaurant
Whether you want to dine in style or just fill up on pub grub, Lincoln has it all. Restaurants range from the small and intimate to the big and boisterous, and Steep Hill boasts a great selection of laid-back cafés and bistros. Our favourite, and a popular hangout for the hungry and hungover, is Browns – they sell every type of pie imaginable, every one of them guaranteed to hit the spot.
It may not be the party capital of the UK, but rest assured that Lincoln has more than enough bars, pubs and clubs to keep the student population happy. The new Student Union bar, 'The Engine Shed', is located directly in front of The Junxion, next to the University Library and is the largest live music venue in Lincoln, featuring 'The Tower Bars', a café bar and a 1750 capacity auditorium with additional bars.
Also highly recommended is Vodka Revolution on the High Street – great for cocktails, all types of vodka and 2-4-1 food deals. The Falcon is also another popular hangout with 'trebles for singles'; a great stop off point on any night out.
Exclusive offers with Fitness first
If you're looking for a student-friendly gym with exclusive offers for Mezzino Privilege card holders then Fitness First is for you. Just ten minutes from The Junxion, Fitness First offers fantastic facilities at a very affordable price.
If you fancy something a little more competitive, the Athletics Union on campus has a huge range of sporting clubs and societies, from the standard; football, basketball, badminton, hockey to the more adventurous winter sports, gliding and kayaking. And if you've bags of energy to spare, Tuesday night is student night at Playzone – a bouncy-castle paradise for big kids looking to have some fun, located next to Lincoln City Football Ground.
The Odeon, a multi-screen cinema
Lincoln has plenty to keep you entertained when you're not working or painting the town red. The best place to catch the latest film has to be The Odeon, a multi-screen cinema offering discounts with an NUS card. And for the serious cinemagoer there is the University film society for regular screenings and events.
If there's nothing on at the cinema, then there's plenty more to do in the city, from going bowling to paintballing. Or why not organise your own mini Grand prix at the go-karting centre.
Lincoln boasts a wealth of choice for shopping, ranging from Eqvvs – a designer clothes store – to a newly expanded Topshop and Topman. The town centre also offers all the usual high street names, so you'll be sure to find what you need in and around Lincoln. There are also lots of smaller boutiques and art shops to be found at the top of Steep Hill in the Bailgate area – perfect for an afternoon's browsing.
Lincoln has all major high street banks in and around the city centre, and The Junxion has its own cashpoints on site. In terms of tuition fees and student loans, then Student Services is located in the main University Academic Building on the ground floor.
The Junxion is so close to the campus and the city centre you'll find most places are within easy walking distance. However, there's a bus service from the city centre to a number of destinations within the area. For those of you that fancy a day in Nottingham or Leeds, or simply want to pop home for a visit, there are daily train and coach services running from the city centre.
For those of you that don't fancy the climb up Steep Hill to the Cathedral then there is a regular shuttle service running from outside French Connection.
Like any city, Lincoln's got plenty of hidden delights and finding your own favourite places is one of the best things about moving to a new area. Until you do, here are a couple of ours...
Designer clothes store Eqvvs is heaven for label junkies and offers 10% off purchases for Privilege cardholders.
The Drill Hall is a great venue for group nights out, offering everything from open mike nights to beer festivals.
Fancy a change of scenery? With its lovely grassy banks and peaceful lakes, The Arboretum is the perfect place to read or relax and, weather permitting, is the ideal revision location towards the end of term.
The Bailgate (the area at the top of the hill) offers you an alternative from your mainstream shopping outlets with an array of traditional boutiques, where you are able to find that something for every occasion. Why not, whilst you're shopping, try out one of the many cafes or bistros at the top of the hill.
