Is Asha House like a Hall of Residence?

Yes, in size, but not in terms of layout or atmosphere. Our schemes are purpose designed to offer a choice of fully furnished city-living apartments. You can be as involved as you like with events which are always organised to reflect the mood of the current residents. Or you can simply live in your town-pad and forget about the other students.

Can I share an apartment with my friends?

Yes. We have apartments to accommodate different group sizes, ranging from 4 to 6 bedroom apartments. Or we have studios and one-bedroom apartments – state-of-the-art, self-contained apartments which are ideal for individuals wanting their own space, or for couples wanting to share the price.

Do I have to clear out my room out of term time?

No, your apartment is yours to live in for the full term of your tenancy which is generally 48 weeks for a standard ensuite room (though studios and 1 beds are generally for 50 weeks and we can usually extend tenancies to cater for postgraduate needs.

In addition, if you are staying for another year – you can also leave all your stuff over the summer (you just need to box it up so we can give the rooms a thorough inspection, clean them and attend to any maintenance ready for when you return.

Asha House is in the town centre, whereas the campus is about a mile outside the town centre.

When does the tenancy start?

Contracts usually start 1st September and all we need to secure your room is £150 booking fee (which later becomes your damages deposit) and then just 4 weeks rent on 1st August – which we know helps your cash flow!

How is rent paid and how often?

We collect your rent four times a year – in August, October, January and April. This allows you to avoid paying one big lump sum and also coincides with the issue of loan payments.

How much deposit do I need to put down?

We ask for £150 booking fee when you sign your contract, which then becomes your damages deposit. This is refundable subject to satisfactory inspection at the end of your stay.

How do I book my room?

You can make an enquiry right away; just complete the accommodation enquiry form and our Accommodation Team will get right back to you with processes and options available – to suit your circumstances.

What happens if there's a problem with the heating or other services?

We'll deal with it for you. Just contact the on-site Accommodation Team and a member of the on-site maintenance team will sort it out as soon as possible.

What if I like living at Asha House so much I want to re-book for next year?

That's not a problem – many of our residents are returning students who just don't want to leave! We can't prioritise when we're handing out rooms though, so apply as early as you can to improve your chances. And if you are staying – you can also leave all your stuff over the summer, you just need to box it up so we can give the rooms a thorough inspection, clean them and attend to any maintenance ready for when you return.
